EMIRATE VOCATIONAL SCHEME (EVS)

INTRODUCTION:

Young people are naturally impressionable. In order for them not to stray into the abyss of destructive tendencies, conscious effort must be made at all times to channel their boundless energy, creative abilities in the right direction.

Any society that aspires to be a force to reckon with and desires a secured future must ready itself to invest in young people.

One strategy for ensuring the development of young people in the right direction is empowerment via practical and viable skills.

EMIRATE VOCATIONAL SCHEME (EVS):

EVS will be a one stop Scheme equipped with facilities and facilitators where young people can acquire, develop, nurture and sustain skills in various vocations. These vocations will include photography, textile designs, arts, crafts and catering etc.

PILOT PROJECT:

As its pilot project, ASO-OKE making skills acquisition programme will expose young people to stimulating avenue to exhibit their boundless potential and earn sustainable income.

Ilorin enjoys international renown as the home of the ASO-OKE fabric. This indigenous material which has great economic potential is almost going into extinction. Reviving it is consistent with government’s desire to diversify the economy and showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage.

EVS will demystify this time tested fabric by teaching ways and methods of contemporarising it to develop patronage among young people and other arts lovers.

Focus on this fabric is capable of re-igniting not only interest in this commodity of great value but also as well spotlighting Kwara State on the global arts/fashion map.

STRATEGY:

EVS will unite young people and teach them how they can creatively develop design concepts using ASO-OKE fabric; expose them to ready markets  plus an array of experts and designers in the fabric industry who will interact with participants in the course of the programme.

THE INTRODUCER:

Ibrahimovik Arts and Fashion Empire is the brainchild of Lawal Adebayo Ibrahim, a young designer born 26 years ago in Lagos by Kwaran parents of Ilorin ancestry.

Ibrahim cut his teeth under Alhaji Drammeh, a Senegalese resident in Nigeria shortly after completing his elementary school in 1992. After serving Drammeh for six years, Ibrahim worked with a number of iconic designers among who were JimiKing, Franca Fashion, Princess Abba Folawiyo, owner of the famed Labanella Fashion.

He has interest in the development of intricately woven wall hangings, customised bags, table clothes and embroidery and local fabrics and attires.

He is, at present, exploring a scheme whereby young Nigerians can work in unison to showcase talents in arts and fashion design, using indigenous fabrics like ASO-OKE, ANKARRA, WOODIN, KWETTE etc to create locally acceptable, yet internationally marketable labels.
